Fine Gael TD for Dublin Mid-West, Derek Keating, has called for Lucan & Clondalkin shopkeepers and other national lottery retailers to be protected in the event of the sale of the national lottery. Deputy Keating was speaking in Dáil Eireann today in the debate on the sale of state assets as recommended by the McCarthy Report.

I wish to raise as a matter of urgency the issue of bonuses, large lump sums, severance payments and pensions which have been paid or will be paid before February next to senior Civil Servants, senior Officials of the State, senior Gardai and School Principals and the need to stop the brain drain into retirement. I wish to raise with the relevant Minister matters to address this unacceptable situation and to clarify the cost to the Exchequer and if the Minister has plans to address this crisis.
